Clarinet Quintet in A major, KV 581 Pärt. Fratres for violin and piano Prokofiev. Overture on Hebrew Themes, Op.34 BUY TICKET Vladimir Spivakov plunged deep into the vast ocean of chamber music when he was still a student at the Moscow Conservatory. He played a lot of works by Taneyev, Tchaikovsky, Borodin, Shostakovich, Prokofiev and European composers in various formations. Chamber music is a most important part of schooling for each artist and a bottomless well of outstanding works, says the Maestro. Throughout his life Spivakov has been playing in chamber ensembles with great pleasure. Among his favorite programmes of recent years there are "Bach's Hour" and "Schubert's Hour", but on a par with the great names of the past Spivakov puts the living Estonian classic Arvo Pärt, whom he regards as one of the greatest figures on the musical firmament of the XX century. At the International Music Festival in Colmar (France), which Spivakov was asked to head back in 1989, chamber music concerts have become an indelible part of the programmes long ago. The excellent acoustics of the St. Peter Chapel has heard masterpieces of various eras and styles performed by bright musicians from different countries, both young and those of international recognition. Vladimir Spivakov is not only the Art Director of the forum, but also its active participant - as a conductor and a violinist. In chamber formations he shares the stage with his world-famous colleagues, and also with the virtuosos of the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia (the Orchestra being a permanent main participant of the Festival). In July 2016 the first concert of this kind was devoted to the music of Mozart, Prokofiev and Pärt, performed by Vladimir Spivakov himself and the NPR's members: concertmaster Timur Pirverdiev, associate concertmaster Viktoria Blazhina, principal viola Svetlana Stepchenko, principal clarinet Andrey Mikhailovsky, Zoya Abolits (piano) and talented young cellist Anastasia Kobekina (a Vladimir Spivakov Foundation grant-recipient). The concert was acclaimed as one of the greatest artistic achievements of the latest Colmar Festival, that prompted the musicians to present the programme to the Moscow audience as well.
