“Waltz as a Mirror of an Epoch” - is the title of the NPR's new program given to it by the conductor Arsentiy Tkachenko who will direct the orchestra on that night. In 2012, the young maestro won an award at the Third Ilya Musin All-Russian Young Conductors Competition, in subsequent years he took a post of conductor at the Moscow Musical Theater, joined the NPR's conductor-trainee group, and from the season 2019/20 was invited to work at the orchestra. Since that time, he has appeared with the orchestra in top Moscow halls with a number of various programs, including, among others, large-scale vocal and symphonic scores.

Compiling the concert program of waltzes alone, Arsentiy Tkachenko set a hard artistic task for himself and the orchestra: to reveal the sense of style and performing universalism, and, at the same time, to show the audience what changes Waltz, “the King of Ballrooms”, has undergone in different historical times, how it was seen in different countries, what role waltzes played in drama theater and films.

Well-known dance miniatures by Russian and foreign composers, created over almost two centuries, will be performed: from the Viennese gems by Johann Strauss Jr. to the poignant Valse Lyrique by Sibelius, from the sublime Valse-Fantasie by Glinka to soundtracks to modern films “The Barber of Siberia” and “Anna Karenina”.
