The NPR’s Russian Tour Will Go On In Murmansk

On September 28-30 the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia and Vladimir Spivakov will continue their tour over Russian regions giving three concerts in Murmansk and Severomorsk. They will take place as usual in the Murmansk Philharmonic Hall and in the Stroitel House of Culture in Severomorsk.

The “Arctic” tour features two different programs (see Events). One is formed around musical gems connected with theater. It has been already acclaimed in towns of the Volga Region, Orenburg, Kursk and Belgorod Oblasts. Its soloists are the NPR's group principals Andrei Mikhailovsky (clarinet) and Kirill Soldatov (trumpet), both awardees of international competitions.

The Murmansk concerts will start with works by Grieg and Tchaikovsky, great composers of Norwegian and Russian music, who were known to be on very friendly terms and shared their creative interests. The piano part in Grieg's famed Concerto will be played by 15-year old Egor Sidorov, a scholarship holder of the Vladimir Spivakov Charity Foundation, and student of the Central Music School at the Moscow Conservatory. Egor has won several international competitions in Kursk, Vladimir, Vilnus (Balis Dvarionas Contest), Malaysia and Finland (WPTA Finland), and got awards at the Vladimir Krainev Moscow Competition and the Young Chopin in Martigny (Switzerland).

The National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia first attended the Kola Peninsula in 2005 during its extended tour dedicated to the 60the Anniversary of the WW2 Victory. The NPR was the first top orchestra ever performing in Severomorsk, the place of the dislocation of the Russian Northern Fleet; the musicians visited the Pyotr Velikiy atomic battle cruiser and laid wreaths at the Monument to Heroic Northern Sailors, Defenders of the Arctic Circle. Vladimir Spivakov and his orchestra visited the Murmansk Oblast again in 2008 when they played in Murmansk, Severomorsk and also in Monchegorsk where the NPR was the first big symphony orchestra ever heard. The Severomorsk concert was held in the hangar of the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier. In 2019 the maestro and his collective returned again to the Kola Peninsula, this time under the auspices of the Russian Ministry of Culture within its project “All-Russia Philharmonic Seasons” realized together with the Moscow Philharmonic Society since 2003. In 2021 the collaboration with the All-Russia Philharmonic Seasons project is going on, moreover, all the NPR's Russian tours during this season are dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Moscow Philharmonic Society.
