The NPR’s Concerts in Dubai

The NPR’s Concerts in Dubai

On November 27–28, Vladimir Spivakov and the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia will give two concerts at Dubai Opera. This will be the first appearance of the Russian ensemble in the capital of the United Arab Emirates; the maestro has already performed in Dubai with the Moscow Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra. The NPR under Vladimir Spivakov’s direction will share the stage with two young talented soloists — cellist Dali Gutserieva and pianist Adam Gutseriev.

Vladimir Spivakov has compiled the two concert programs of masterpieces by Russian and European composers. From the heritage of the main Russian classic Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky the maestro has chosen the Romeo and Julia overture-phantasy based on Shakespeare’s play and the most colorful orchestral pieces from his three ballets. European symphonic music will be displayed by Grieg’s popular First Suite to Henrik Ibsen’s drama Peer Gynt and two spectacular oeuvres — Camille Saint-Saëns’ Cello Concerto and Edvard Grieg’s Piano Concerto.

The first music night will end with one of the works most dear to Spivakov’s heart in his symphonic repertoire that is Carmen-Suite assembled from the music of George Bizet’s opera Carmen by recently deceased Rodion Shchedrin, one of the greatest Russian composers of the 20th century. Shchedrin composed it for his wife — outstanding ballet dancer Maya Plisetskaya whose 100th anniversary falls on November 20, 2025. After the Suite premiere at The Bolshoi, Plisetskaya had danced Carmen more than 150 times all over the world from Moscow to Havana, from Helsinki to Tokyo. The Carmen-Suite by Shchedrin is a staple of concert performances as an extremely popular symphonic masterwork.

David Geringas professed an illustrious career to Dali Gutserieva, graduate of the Moscow Conservatory, winner of many contests such as the Sviatoslav Knushevitsky Competition in Russia, in Manchester, the American Virtuoso competition in New-York, the Grand Prize Virtuoso competition in Salzburg and the Nouvelles Etoiles competition in Paris. In 2018, Jose Carreras presented her the BraVo prize in the Looking Into Future nomination. In 2019, she took part in the NPR’s European tour playing in important European halls such as La Seine Musicale in Paris, Flagey Centre in Brussels, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and Cadogan Hall in London.

Dali’s younger brother Adam Gutseriev, at present a student of the Moscow Conservatory, has also won many decorations such as in Japan (Grand Prix at the Tokyo Golden Classic Music Awards), the United Kingdom (Manchester), Germany (the Fanny Mendelssohn Award), Denmark, France et al. The Gutserievs are touring all over the world and perform with best orchestras and conductors including Vladimir Fedoseev, Hobart Earle, Daniel Oren, Keri-Lynn Wilson, Thomas Sanderling, Philippe Chizhevsky and others.
