The 13th edition of the Moscow Music Festival Vladimir Spivakov Invites will end with the concert of the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia with the participation of Merited Artist of Russia Ekaterina Mechetina who will play the piano part in Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto, which is a kind of the composer’s visiting card.
For Ekaterina Mechetina it is the most significant work in her repertoire, she has played it many a time with various orchestras and conductors and recently has summarized her experience in a book about the Concerto. Due to this Concerto, Ekaterina Mechetina and Vladimir Spivakov met and the acquaintance has grown into a close artistic friendship.
’My attitude toward Rachmaninoff is reverential, admits the pianist. He was a pure soul but with a hard core. In any side of his character, I see something extraordinary. His music has an amazing quality: it teaches us to love but also to experience peak states of humanity: to be in despair and pain or to feel extreme moments of happiness’.
In Part II the orchestra directed by Vladimir Spivakov will perform the Third Symphony by Alexander Scriabin — a monumental work reflecting author’s philosophical and religious searches. The composer prefaced the score with an extended literary text where he detailed his thoughts about a god-man, «divine I», suppressing passions and aiming at a «divine play» that is creative arts as the pinnacle of activities of a free human spirit.
