Conductor – Dmitri Jurowski
Fragments from operas by Bizet, Massenet, Gounod, Bellini, Flotow, Donizetti etc.
The glorious tenor, world opera star Dmitry Korchak will give the long-awaited recital within the Cherry Orchard Open Art Festival. He will be accompanied by the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia for whom Korchak has become one of the closest artistic partners (e.g. with this orchestra Korchak debuted as a conductor). On this night the conductor podium will be owned by Dmitri Jurowski, the youngest representative of the famous musical dynasty, recently appointed to lead the Symphony Orchestra of the Moscow Philharmonia.
The concert program amalgamates gems of French Romanticism and Italian bel canto including works that have brought the world fame to Dmitry Korchak. A very special meaning for the artist and his fans has Nadir’s Romance from Bizet’s opera «Les pêcheurs de perles». It was this part that ignited his stardom on the world stage: in 2004 his performance of the part in Italy in the production by legendary director Pier-Luigi Pizzi was sensational and showed to the audience a tenor with unique «antiquarian» timbre and immaculate sense of style. Later the part won him triumphs in the Paris Opera-Comique, the Gran Teatre Del Liceu in Barcelona, the Theater an der Wien in Vienna, the Colon Theater in Buenos-Aires. Recently he has repeated this role in the Berlin State Opera in Wim Wenders’s production and in the Teatro Massimo in Palermo.
Another Bizet’s masterpiece is Smith’s serenade from «La jolie fille de Perth» of rare beauty, an exquisite example of lyricism and adornment of many programs of famous tenors. The dramatic depth of the night will be underlined by the by Werther’s aria from Massenet’s eponymous opera. The role has become pivotal in Dmitry Korchak’s repertoire on the stages of the Vienna State Opera, the Paris Opera Bastille, opera houses in Tokyo and Bologna, and conquered the audience of the Arena di Verona. Romeo’s Cavatina from Gounod’s «Romeo et Juliette» is also one of Dmitry Korchak’s visiting cards: he is one of rare singers who performs the aria in its original tonality. Such an interpretation requires an exceptional vocal freedom and is considered now to be the model of mastery.
The Italian section of the program will present the art of Dmitry Korchak as a master of bel canto. The popular Romance of Nemorino from «L’elisir d’amore» by Donizzetti will remind of the singer’s triumphal debuts in the Vienna State Opera, the Covent-Garden in London, the Bayern Staatsoper.
The concert will end with musical symbols of sunny Italy: Rossini’s La Danza, Leoncavallo’s famous «Mattinata» and Cesare Bixio’s nostalgic hit «Parlami d’amore». The lyrical center of Part II will certainly be highly popular Lionel’s Romance from opera «Martha» by German composer Friedrich von Flotow written in the best Italian traditions.
