Igor Bakanov was born in 1966 in Fergana (Uzbekistan).
In 1990 he won the All-Union Competition in Kharkov (First Prize). In 1994 he got the Second Prize at the «Nizhny-Novgorod Brass» International Competition.
From 1994 to 1996, he was a member of the State Academic Symphony Capella under Valery Polyansky. From 1993 to 2003, he was a member of the Russian State Symphony Cinema Orchestra. From 1996 to 2004, he was a member of the Russian National Orchestra. Since 2004, he has been a member of the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia.
He teaches at the Central Music School – Academy of Performing Arts (Associate Professor), and regularly conducts master classes at the Educational Centrу "Sirius" and other cities in Russia.
In 2024, he was awarded the Gratitude of the Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation.
