Nikita Kim was born in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky in 1972. In 1991 he graduated from the Special Music School at the Leningrad Conservatory (Lev Pechersky's classes) and then in 1997 – the Saint Petersburg State Conservatory (Kyrill Sokolov's classes).
In 1992-1997, he was the concertmaster of the bassoon section in the Saint Petersburg Classic State Orchestra, in 1997-2003, he was the second concertmaster of the bassoon section of the Moscow State Academic Symphony Orchestra directed by Pavel Kogan, in 2000-2003, he was a member of the orchestra of the Stanislavsky-Nemirovich-Danchenko Academic Music Theater in Moscow.
He joined the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia in 2003.
He co-works as a guest artist with many Moscow and regional collectives.
