Sergei Karachun was born in 1980 in Minsk. He graduated from the Republican Gymnasium-College at the Belarus State Music Academy (Nikolai Krivosheev’s classes, 1999), the P.I.Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory (Professor Evgeny Kolosov’s classes, 2004) and the post graduate courses there (2007).
In various years, he worked in the Maly Theater State Academic Orchestra, the «Novaya Rossya» State Symphony Orchestra. Since 2004, he has been an artist of the double bass section in the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia.
He is a permanent member of OpensoundOrchestra with which he has taken part in numerous recordings of scores to films and several CDs.
As a guest musician he has performed with the «New Music Studio» ensemble under the direction of Vladimir Tarnopolsky and Igor Dronov, the «Philharmonia of Nations» Orchestra conducted by Justus Frantz, the Musica Viva Moscow Chamber Orchestra directed by Alexander Rudin, musicAeterna under the baton of Theodor Currentzis, the Wurttemberg Chamber Orchestra Heilbronn (Germany), the Russian State Academic Chamber Orchestra, the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra directed by Ivan Rudin.
He took part in the musical accompaniment to the award ceremonies of the Moscow Film Festival and the Golden Eagle Prize, the Comedy Club and Ivan Urgant television shows.
