On June 12, Vladimir Spivakov and the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia will take part in one of the most grandiose international projects in the open air in China – Beijing Great Wall Concert. The Russian musicians will perform on the open stage in Badaling, which is the most visited site of the Great Wall of China near Beijing. The organizers of the Beijing Great Wall Concert series state that 'they are aiming at paying respect to various civilizations with the help of music and attracting the world's attention through arts'.
The Beijing Great Wall Concert unites best musicians and teams from various countries by combining achievements of the world's arts with Chinese cultural traditions. The project crosses the frames of a mere musical event and becomes the arena for a dialogue of cultures.
The National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia and maestro Vladimir Spivakov will be joined in the concert by Russian opera stars Olga Peretyatko (soprano) and Alexey Neklyudov (tenor) as well as the legendary Chinese pianist and composer Yin Chengzong, graduate from the Leningrad Conservatory and Silver Prize winner of the 1962 edition of the Tchaikovsky Piano Competition, distinguished teacher of many talents (including pianists Lang Lang and George Li), who will play the piano part in his own famous “Yellow River” Piano Concerto.
At the foot of the Great Wall, the artists of both countries will play Russian and Chinese music thus giving a new impulse to the development of Chinese-Russian friendship and cultural cooperation between the two countries, promoting mutual understanding of the peoples. The NPR's program will be based on symphonic works by the great Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The concert will start with the national anthems of China and Russia.
