The Moscow International Performing Arts Center (MMDM) opens its 18th concert and theatre season with two concerts which will feature the MMDM's President Vladimir Spivakov and the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia. On the first night, the maestro and his collective will appear on the stage of the Svetlanov Hall with the world-renowned pianist Denis Matsuev, an old friend and constant artistic partner. Vladimir Spivakov appreciates highly  this charismatic soloist "for his astounding virtuosity, blazing temperament, breadth and power of his human and musician personality." Denis Matsuev, in turn, remarks: “Vladimir Spivakov is a true master of accompaniment! In the score, he finds really unique nuances that can escape the soloist with  other conductors. This is priceless!"

The National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia and Vladimir Spivakov are back to their concert activities after months of the forced hiatus. The musicians will open the new season with a tribute to Archpriest Alexander Men whose life was tragically ended 30 years ago. In memory of the eminent theologian,  the maestro will conduct Mozart's Requiem – the  immortal masterpiece, a summit among funeral masses. The performance will feature soloists of leading Moscow opera houses and the NPR's  permanent partner - the renowned choir “Masters of Choral Singing” under the direction of Lev Kontorovich.

On March 13, the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia will perform at the Zaryadye Great Hall, but for the first time there under the baton of  its artistic director and principal conductor Vladimir Spivakov (the NPR previously played with other conductors on this stage, while Vladimir Spivakov directed the Moscow Virtuosi). The maestro will present one of the best carved  and beautiful programs of his collective, which invariably charms the audience. It will feature the masterpieces by Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev, inspired by Shakespeare's famed Verona tragedy, as well as the most popular of Prokofiev's Piano Concertos -  the “shining and sprightly” (as Boris Asafiev put it) Third Concerto in C major. Anatoly Sobchak, a prominent Russian lawyer and politician, the first mayor of St. Petersburg (who returned to the city its historical name), died on February 19, 2000. Marking every fifth anniversary of this tragic date, Vladimir Spivakov and the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia traditionally dedicate to Anatoly Sobchak a musical night in the Northern capital.
